Knoxville Girls Rock Camp believes that young women, transgender, and gender-nonconforming youth deserve the support and encouragement to participate fully in the field of music as a form of empowerment and expression. We believe in building confidence, encouraging artistic communication, forming community and providing emotional support for well-being. We believe creative expression and collaboration can empower them to work together to solve problems, communicate their unique ideas and viewpoints, and overcome social challenges they uniquely experience.
We achieve these goals by providing a space for young girls, transgender, and gender-nonconforming youth to access instruments and music through workshops, demonstrations and speakers. We serve youth aged 9-17 of all abilities and socio-economic and cultural backgrounds in order to build a real community of young women empowered by collaboration and mutual support in the musical performing arts.
Knoxville Girls Rock Camp is a program of KnowHow Knoxville, a community organization that works at the intersection of critical and creative thinking to support young people in leadership development and civic engagement. We are also a member of the international Girls Rock Camp Alliance and benefit from the support of more than 65 camps worldwide who have been operating successfully for many years and share resources, best practices, and evidence-based programming components.
